Hatton Plantations PLC, in partnership with Nilcarbon Lanka (Pvt) Limited, is proud to introduce the Clean Energy Cookstove Issuing Project – the world’s first cookstove program designed to address all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative not only places Sri Lanka on the global stage as a leader in sustainability but also directly transforms the lives of our estate communities.
- Empowering Communities & Protecting the Planet
The improved cookstoves cut firewood use by up to 70%, providing a sustainable solution to the pressing challenge of deforestation. By reducing the demand for firewood, the project safeguards Sri Lanka’s forests while easing the daily burden of firewood collection for families. - Health & Wellbeing for Women and Children
Traditional cooking methods have long caused respiratory illnesses, eye infections, and other health issues due to harmful smoke exposure. The clean energy cookstoves significantly reduce indoor air pollution, ensuring a healthier home environment, especially for women and children who are most exposed. - Supporting National and Global Goals
This initiative supports Sri Lanka’s climate change commitments while promoting gender equality and poverty alleviation. By aligning with national policies and the UN SDGs, it sets a global model for sustainable development.
🌱 Impact So Far
We are proud to announce that 9,129 cookstoves have already been distributed free of charge to our estate communities (Workers and Non-Workers) in the first and second stages of the program. This is our journey towards a cleaner, healthier, environmental and more sustainable future.
✨ Hatton Plantations PLC, we believe in driving change that matters for our people, our planet, and generations to come.
